9/10 Gumball machine

The wait is over: our debut YouTube video is now live.

Released on Apr 9, 2026, our first "Cancel 9/10 Gas" production opens with a teenage boy standing before a gumball machine. Although he holds a penny, he is stymied by a price tag requiring exactly nine-tenths of a cent.

The video delves into the history of this absurdity, tracing it back to the 1930s. At that time, gasoline cost a mere ten cents per gallon. To fund infrastructure for the burgeoning auto industry, the government introduced a new one-cent tax per gallon.

To avoid the psychological impact of a full one-cent price hike on a ten-cent product, gas companies opted to pass on only a fraction of the cost—nine-tenths of a penny.

For almost 100 years we have been stuck with this  silly extra burden. It is time now to ditch the fraction. Go to YouTube, search for Cancel 9/10 gas and subscribe to help us cancel 9/10 gas.
